Message from Cambridgeshire Libraries

May I just reassure any Friends who have been concerned about recent press reports of further cuts to County Council budgets, that for 2014 there are no libraries proposed for closure. We know there will be further reductions to the library budget in 2015/16 and we will need to work on various options to achieve these reductions next year, we will keep you fully informed. The budget cuts required this year and for 2014, have been achieved with further reductions to management and administrative staffing and a move to combine and consolidate backroom library support to the Roger Ascham site in Cambridge. We have also had a very welcome extra £200,000 to spend on books this year, and I hope you have seen the results on the shelves in your library. The last quarter's statistics showed a very encouraging overall increase in visitor numbers, books borrowed, e-book loans and new members, I hope this trend will continue.
