Big Friendly Read Summer Reading Challenge

The Summer Reading Challenge is the UK's biggest reading for pleasure programme in libraries for primary school aged children, with 800,000 children taking part last year.

This year's Big Friendly Read Summer Reading Challenge is linking up with the global year-long Roald Dahl 100 celebrations, honouring the world's No.1 storyteller.

The Big Friendly Read features some of Roald Dahl's best-loved characters and the amazing artwork of his principal illustrator, Sir Quentin Blake.

You can register at the library whenever it is open (see opening times on right), but there will be volunteers available at the following times to talk to children about what they have been reading or might like to try next:

Tuesdays 3.30 to 5.30 pm
Wednesdays 10.30 am to 12.30 pm
Saturdays 10.30 am to 12.30 pm

There will be an award ceremony on Saturday 17th September for all those children who have read six books by the beginning of September - more details to follow.
